One of your local West Greenville eye doctor’s most important jobs is educating folks who come to us for eye care. This, of course, means answering lots of questions. Among the most common questions we get from our patients here at Yeager Vision Care is, “Are contact lenses a better choice for correcting my vision, or are more traditional eyeglasses better?” Well, the truth is, there’s really not a right or wrong answer to this question because everything depends on your unique needs and preferences. Indeed, each solution has its pros and cons, which you and your eye doctor will have to think through before you make a final decision.

Let’s start with the pros and cons of eyeglasses — a tried and true technology that works by holding lenses out in front of your eyes in just the right position with carefully designed frames. The advantages of glasses are many: they’re easy to take on and off; they’re easy to clean and store; they’re able to handle a wider range of vision impairment severity than contacts or LASIK; they’re not problematic for allergy or dry eye sufferers; and, thanks to new materials, they’re also lighter, stronger, and less distorting (bifocals especially) are much improved over those even of a decade ago. Nevertheless, some people do find there are drawbacks to wearing glasses, including the way they look and the way they feel. For these folks, our West Greenville eye doctor here at Yeager Vision Care will recommend giving contact a try. Though they tend to take a little more getting-used-to than glasses, today’s contact lenses are more comfortable and versatile than ever before in the history of optometry. As long as your eyes aren’t too dry or suffering from astigmatism that’s too severe, there should be a contact lens for you.

Again, the choice between glasses and contacts is one that you and your West Greenville eye doctor will have to make together when you come in for an eye exam at the office of Yeager Vision care. It can be a difficult choice to make, but you can be sure we’ll be with you every step of the way.

Berea Optometrist

Some of the most common visual errors that we see in our patients at Yeager Vision Care are refractive errors such as nearsightedness and farsightedness. Nearsightedness, also known as myopia, is a condition in which you have the ability to see objects that are close-up, but struggle to see objects that are far away. Nearsightedness can occur at different levels; you may be able to slightly see objects from a distance, while others may not be able to focus on objects at a distance at all. Nearsightedness tends to run in families, and it can either develop during childhood or adolescence, or it can be present from birth. If you feel that you may be nearsighted, you should visit our Berea optometrist for a regular eye exam, during which we will be able to confirm if you are nearsighted or not. Fortunately, myopia can easily be corrected using prescription eyeglasses, contact lenses, or corrective surgeries such as LASIK.

Farsightedness, also known as hyperopia, is virtually the opposite of nearsightedness. Those who are farsighted cannot clearly see objects that are close to them, and instead only see objects that are at a distance from them well. Farsightedness also tends to run in families, and is usually present at birth. Similarly to nearsightedness, farsightedness can be determined during a routine eye exam with our Berea optometrist and can be corrected with the use of prescription glasses, contact lenses, or surgical methods.

If you feel that you may have one of these refractive errors, you should schedule an appointment at Yeager Vision Care to see our Berea optometrist at your soonest convenience. To schedule an appointment, you can either call our office and speak with a friendly member of our staff, or you can request your desired appointment time using the form on our website, in which case someone from our staff will be in touch with you promptly to confirm. To learn more about your eye health and the services we offer at Yeager Vision Care, we hope you will visit our website and contact us with any specific questions or concerns that you may have.
